India won the ninth SAFF CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY. India won the "SAFF BANGABANDHU CHAMPIONSHIP 2023" after defeating Kuwait in the thrilling finale. In the first half of this match, Kuwait's midfielder Shabib Al-Khaldi scored in the 14th minute to give the lead to the Kuwait team. In the 38th minute, Lallianuala Chhangte of the Indian team scored a goal and equalized the score at 1-1. The goal score for both teams was equal at 1-1 at halftime.

No goals were scored in the second half. As a result, the game went into extra time. There was no goal in the first half of extra time. No goal was scored in the second half of extra time. The game was decided by a PENALTY SHOOTOUT. After 4-4 in the first penalty shootout, India won 5-4 in sudden death. The penalty shootout started with the home team. India's captain, Sunil Chhetri, succeeded on the first attempt. India was ahead. But Kuwait's Mohammad Abdullah missed the first penalty. After Sandesh's second penalty, India led 2-0. Kuwait's Fawaz Alotaibi made it 2-1. India's Changte and Kuwait's Ahmed Aldhefeery succeeded in the third penalty. India was leading 3-2. India's Udanta Singh missed the fourth penalty, Kuwait's Abdulaziz Mahran succeeded, and the score was 3-3. The fifth penalty was won by both teams. The shootout score was tied at 4-4. Then the sudden death started. After India's Mahesh Naorem succeeded, India was leading 5-4. India won 5-4 after Kuwait's Khaled Hajiah failed. India previously won the staff championship title in 1993,1997,1999,2005,2009,2011,2015.
