49th NATIONAL WOMEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

IM-: INTERNATIONAL MASTER 

WGM-: WOMAN GRAND MASTER 

WIM -: WOMAN INTERNATIONAL MASTER 

  •  Date - 10/7/2023 -: Odisha's Padmini Rout became the champion in the 49th National Women's Chess Championship held in Ahmedabad. From 11 rounds, she scored a total of 9 points and was in the top position. In the final round, Padmini defeated Maharashtra's Divya Deshmukh to win the fifth national title of her career.
  • She has already won the national title 4 times consecutively in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.
  • Padmini was at the joint top spot with 8 points till 10 rounds of play. In this round she defeated Dehankar Mrudul. Goa's IM Bhakti Kulkarni and PSPB's WGM Mary Ann Gomes also topped the list with the same 8 points. But in the final round, Kulkarni was drawn against WIM Arpita Mukherjee of Bengal and WIM Isha Sharma of Mary Ann Karnataka. Padmini won first place with 9 points, Mary Ann Gomes was second with 8.8 points and Arpita was third with honor points. Padmini represented PSPB. He expressed her happiness to win the fifth national title in her career.
  • Among other players from Odisha, WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty, Yashita Rout, Saina Salonika and Aparajita Gochchhikar participated in the competition.
